Jawbreaker by Gary Berntsen: The book the CIA doesnt want you to read.
It was a pretty good read. It is an account written by the CIA field commander of the first months he and his team deployed to afgan right after 9/11. Literally the following month. It really gives some good perspective on some of the events that first started there and how we were close to catching Bin Ladin.
One thing that was a little annoying from time to time was that many of the pages have redacted statements that the CIA ordered be removed from the book. Other than rephrasing his text Bernsten simply black lines it out. Maybe this is to give the reader the impression that they are reading something classified but I think he could have done a better job. Other than that I thought it to be interesting. I have heard that a book called FIRST IN by another retired CIA guy is a little better. I will have to read that later.
