Over the past year or so, I've gotten horribly out of shape. Most of it came down to my inability to adapt to my schedule (I work nights and overnight shifts a lot, as well as full time classes). This semester, I've limited myself to only one class, and I'm staying off of the OT for a while. I have only two real goals this semester: Get in shape, and get my life back under control. They both fit together and support each other.
I had an awakening experience this morning while in class that seems to have 'jumpstarted' my competitive spirit again. I'm using that to get back fully into my workouts, and I hope to be in passing shape by September. I'll keep up a log on this thread every so often to make sure I'm staying accountable. Hey Matt,
Would you mind sharing whatever experience you had? I understand where you're coming from. I've had several instances of sickness and injury stop my workouts. Sometimes Zycam has kept me going ( can I endorse them here? ) but my broken toe stopped my running. I'm just now starting again after 8 weeks. ( never run into on a 300lb. china cabinet in bare feet ) Now its a bit of elbow tendinitis. At 44, it takes longer to recover. Even my son interrupts once in awhile...and who am I to say no to playing pirate? What motivates me back is either reading "Lone Survivor" or mentally putting myself back at the SEAL Adventure Challenge or at one of the 36 hr challenges I've yet to attend...you just get down and do it. Even during the 100 day challenge, there were times I didn't think I had time to do it...I'll be late for work, hey I can skip it...but once I did the first set, it all started to feel like that 1st cup of coffee that really wakes you up...like a switch gets turned on.I miss it now! Anyway, good luck and I'm sure you'll MAKE the time to get in shape. |
