Yeah thats true. I've noticed that alot of guys are strictly doing Don or Stews technique and others are somewhere in between. I think as long as the general principles of the CSS are the same in the style of CSS that you adopt you are good to go. Some guys flutter kick while others don't..I think those types of things are all about what works best for you. The more you do Don's drills the easier doing the CSS will become. If you get a chance I would try to get some videos to Don doing his drills and see if he can critique them for you. Good luck.

Here is Don't input.

your candidates stops coming off the wall losing all his momentum. The breaststroke pullout is a killer when you don't know how to do it properly.

He's continually looking forward, he should be looking down or to the side.

He submerges after sending his arms forward when he should just roll between nose up/nose down positions.

He pulls too deep with his lead arm and brings it too far backward, it should only come to his chest.

His top leg comes too far forward, it should never pass 90 degrees.

His bottom leg never comes forward with his top leg, both legs should come forward together and travel the same distance. His bottom leg goes to 90 degrees and hooks into the water slowing him down.

He rolls too far onto his stomach after his arm stroke, he should remain on his side where he is more streamline. Remember it's Combat SIDE Stroke.

His head is too high out of the water while he is swimming.
